Just Stop It Already!

“We want justice,” she said. “If it was any one of us, we would be in jail today trying to pay a bond, if we had one. The only threat my son was, was being a Black man in America.” Quote in USA Today from Tamala Payne, mother of slain man Casey Goodson Jr.

Is there no other alternative Than for a black man becoming a homicide statistic at the hand of state-sponsored murder? Some will say, what about Black on Black crime. What about White on White crime? The facts state that Blacks are 2.8 times more likely to be killed by law enforcement and represent 32% of deaths at the hands of Police. African Americans only represent 13% of America’s Population.

Concerning Mr. Goodson’s death, Police and the Goodson family share two different accounts of the happenings that night. Just Stop It Already with the “Black Man was waving a Gun” Hypocrisy. Meanwhile, in the same country, hundreds of armed Second Amendment rights supporting whites can fill the halls of the legislature in Michigan, or surround the Michigan Secretary of States’ home, or wave guns at protestors in St. Louis, Missouri. All of them get to live and return to their families.

Is not the Second Amendment for Black people also? Does this fall into the sentiment that voting in Presidential Elections is for whites only? In a nutshell, the Texas Lawsuit to wipe away millions of votes in the Battleground states that voted for President-Elect Biden and Vice President-Elect Harris, by the way, all of which happened to have very large black populated urban metros. Just Stop It Already!

Mr. Goodson was a licensed gun owner with a concealed carry permit, per state of Ohio Law. Ohio does not prohibit the open carry of firearms. It would be convenient to take the Sheriffs’ Deputy at his word that Goodson had a gun pointed at him and repeatedly ordered him to drop the firearm, but there has been far too much water under the bridge by now, bringing every case into question. Oh, by the way, there was no Body Cam available. Just Stop It Already!

Something must change in our pecking order of which lives matter and which ones don’t. Ask the slain man’s mother, Tamala Payne, or Goodson’s 72 yr old Grandmother, who witnessed his bloody shot body falling to the floor with sandwiches and not a firearm. How about asking Goodson’s 5 yr old brother, who also saw this, about which lives matter.

Yes, Black Lives Matter, at least to this mourning family. Just Stop It Already with the crocodile tears and solemn speeches. Reckoning, redefining, retraining, and reapportionment must happen for law enforcement across the country.

“We have also come to this hallowed spot to remind America of the fierce urgency of Now. This is no time to engage in the luxury of cooling off or to take the tranquilizing drug of gradualism. Now is the time to make real the promises of democracy.” The Late Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
