Building The Bridge Together

At the top of the February 18th International News Headlines The Pope has weighed in on the Donald and his bombastic (defined as: high sounding but with little meaning, inflated) rhetoric. The Pontiff said:

“A person who thinks only about building walls, wherever they may be, and not building bridges, is not Christian. This is not the gospel” trump-pope

Fair or unfair remarks from the Pope Francis aside, it becomes very clear that Bridges are far from the conversation in these times of Political seismic activity. However, this strikes a strange irony against the backdrop of Trump not affirming President Obama’s faith, legitimacy or citizenship. Nevertheless, Mr Trump fired back and called the Pope a “disgrace”

“The root of the word “religion” itself is re-ligare, which means to bind together that which is disconnected.

It was this concept that was the impetus of the mixed multitudes in the Sinai and Pentecost experiences of the bible. The USA stands as a mixed multitude of the nations created for the purpose of religious freedom to (bind together that which is disconnected).” From the Accord1 Post entitled Anthology 12/24/2011

The Bible has this to say about True Religion:  “Anyone who sets himself up as “religious” by talking a good game is self-deceived. This kind of religion is hot air and only hot air. Real religion, the kind that passes muster before God the Father, is this: Reach out to the homeless and loveless in their plight, and guard against corruption from the godless world.”

James 1:27 26-27 The Message (MSG)

Our lives and the residue they leave tells a story more vivid than mere words could ever say. These are the actions of charity i.e. Love and the testimony or indisputable evidence that humanity sees. We should all strive as much to do likewise. Golden_Gate_Bridge_San_Francisco_04Accord1 has always encouraged “Building the Bridge Together” as not just a saying but an Anthology.

Anthology is defined as: a collection of selected literary pieces or passages or works of art or music. Jesus was most eloquent and effective by His art of telling a story i.e. parable. The soliloquy of His stories produced the foundation of our Christian faith. Through His sacrifice He did “bind together that which was disconnected.” these connecting fibers of each “collection of selected literary pieces or passages or works of art or music” in us all, remind us that each one including each personal story, is “God’s gift to the world”.

The empathy and determination of Mother Teresa combined with a deep humility is what endures and flourishes in the Missionaries of Charity. This is an organization that she founded. At a time when organized religion is decreasing; Missionaries of Charity is abounding by building bridges of hope and love for those impoverished too deeply for many to notice or care. 2011-0328-opinion-new-census-numbers-mean-new-responsibilities-for-latinos-600x338

Most of this countries’ families came from somewhere else searching for a dream. Some call it the American Dream, some call it Dr. Martin Luther King’s Dream, some call it the legislative Dream Act. However, for thousands of Cherokee victims of the disaster known as the Trail of Tears the dream for they and their generations to follow became a nightmare.

ob-sr747_mcgurn_g_20120423174846-e13352420753182We must together look into the night and understand that the dream offers nothing more than a temporary escape. Both fear and false hope of the darkness of past mistakes and missed opportunities must give way to the morning light of real hope and action.  We can accomplish “Building the Bridge Together” by soberly walking in this biblical truth:”Everyone will know you as My followers if you demonstrate your love to others.”
