Pierced to the Heart

Pierced to the Heart

For whatever God says to us is full of living power: it is sharper than the sharpest dagger, cutting swift and deep into our innermost thoughts and desires with all their parts, exposing us for what we really are.

Hebrews 4:12 Living Bible (TLB)

There is a place in the heart of all men and women where decisions are made. mores vs morality and civilization vs anarchy and what to do. It would be far to simple to blame all of the ills of society on one group. That experiment of inhuman futility failed miserably in World War II Nazi Germany. The ease of scapegoating in the midst of these trying times is oh so convenient and does not calm fears; but it only deceptively diverts it toward another base human emotion of hatred.

Famous-Quotes-and-Sayings-about-Good-and-Evil-Evils-Darkness-cannot-drive-out-darkness-only-light-can-do-that.-Hate-cannot-drive-out-hate-only-love-can-do-that.-Martin-Luther-King-Jr-Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn a famous Russian Dissident was once a World War II Russian Red Army officer who experienced first hand the blurriness of the designation of evil. He saw the Red Army exacting revenge on the aforementioned Nazis of Germany, not by taking the moral high ground but instead showing little difference to their enemy trough acts of what he described as cold blooded murder and rape of German women and children.

To say that all Muslims are radicalized and ready to destroy our way of life through deadly acts of terrorism would be to easy in the short term. In the long term the very safety and security this  circumspectly would achieve the exact opposite through a  destabilizing, serendipitous chain reaction of hatred.

It would be the equivalent of saying that all Christians are evil because of the destructive actions of White Supremacist sudo Christian hate groups.

“But the line dividing good and evil cuts through the heart of every human being”
Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn, The Gulag Archipelago 1918-1956

Ultimately, Solzhenitsyn would convert to Christianity after surmising that the evil was within as with all individuals. He discovered that the very same word of God that Pierced him to his heart was virtuous enough to cut malignant cancer out of his body therefore saving his life.

First Amendment

The American value of freedom to express one’s way of worship  is our in our constitution’s first amendment.

“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof…”

Consider, for instance, that since the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, Americans have been no more likely to die at the hands of terrorists than being crushed to death by unstable televisions and furniture. Meanwhile, in the time it has taken you to read until this point, at least one American has died from a heart attack. Within the hour, a fellow citizen will have died from skin cancer. Roughly five minutes after that, a military veteran will commit suicide. And by the time you turn the lights off to sleep this evening, somewhere around 100 Americans will have died throughout the day in vehicular accidents – the equivalent of “a plane full of people crashing, killing everyone on board, every single day.”

Freedom of religion should never be compromised because  the sword of fear and overreaction can cut two ways. For if ever Judaeo /Christian faith becomes the minority influence, how America handles these times will directly effect it’s future.
