Lift Every Voice

By design or by chance we are meant to be in Community. Community takes on many different appearances. Whether it be family, culture, nationality, religion, trade or occupation etc.  The fact of the matter is, in community we are so much better. Scripture says that “one can put a thousand to flight and two can send Ten thousand”.


The most obvious Community would seem to be in our Human Community that we all take part in. However, despite our similarities we focus on our differences in a negative sense. True enough; we do have our diversity, and spun the wrong way many are profiteering off of the division caused by it. Either through a media machine that grinds away at the connecting fibers of unity, or by deeply ingrained biases that slant the view of one toward another.

As we recognize the contributions of African Americans to this counties great history during the the month of February, It is ok to see this group in the light of current trends that try to amalgamate these achievements into some metaphorical Melting pot. This group of people represent the best of the American Spirit by overcoming again and again not only to survive, but to flourish against all odds and to put to the full test the great American

Echoing the sounds of and in many cases the directions to freedom; in each Negro Spiritual that was sung was a sense of community that is quite a rarity as seen today. Which is the faith to believe, organize and piece together expressions of this faith. This kind of faith, born out of the ashes of a true faith of which at many times was manipulated into a system of actual as well as psychological slavery.

We shall overcome resounds from the Annals of our present day from all of

the oppressed. From each victim of Human Trafficking, Domestic violence, to every young man of color gunned down in senseless acts of hatred that goes unpunished . We shall overcome as a nation that prods clumsily toward this mythical Perfect Union”

Let us all celebrate Black History Month. Let it serve as a reminder of true Community which is empowered by Bridging Social Capital which is “Building the Bridge Together” a Kaleidoscope of cultural stories and histories each one overcoming dividing walls and obstacles through Faith, Trust and Reciprocity.
