A Nation Divided?

In a nation divided among imaginary lines of Ideology, class, gender, ethnicity, skin color, etc., the temptation exists to run away with any one of the many sound bites.

These sound bites outline a season of politics that stands as nothing more than a dog and pony show to see who can win the next ratings cycle among the various network and broadcast news outlets. Also, let’s not forget tabloid and reality Television that reinforces caricatures and stereotypes that give image to the imagery in society. All of this exist as contrary forces to the reconciliation and unity. Imagery is the result of information that is projected onto a surface or a meme influencing thought. We supersede love by using an information system,  i.e. cultural lens or worldview that opposes it. Too often we paint a value of good or bad, right or wrong on to the surface of another’s skin pigmentation, gender, income level, occupation or denomination etc.  All of these are external but love is internal.

Electricity, water and human nature have this in common; they take the pathway of least imagesCAF5M8USresistance. Concerning the latter, especially in the area of relationships; flaws of human nature’s perception make us fight the battle between the human nature’s division in opposition to a spiritually mature nature of reconciliation and unity

Can we become ONE NEW NATION UNDER GOD,  joined together by love (Jn 3:16)? In Genesis chapter 11, the Bible refers to a time when all of the people of the earth spoke one language.

Linguistics has a centrality of origin as linguists trace the history of language. According to scripture there was in this time that the people of the earth began to build an incredible monument to themselves. The Bible refers to this monument as The Tower of Babel because this is the place that languages were confused.

In the Genesis account, the structure’s completion could not come into fruition because the motivation was not right. Unity is ultimately must come in diversity to achieve the ethnic diversity and plurality. Such unity is achieved through the power of agreement either as in Genesis 11 for a divisive outcome or in Ps 133 for a positive outcome.

In Genesis 11 the illusion of unity was present. This illusion is ultimately full of all of the temporalimagesCA0KJ5QQ characteristics of humanity at its worst, where a few have a voice and small factions control the unassuming and ill-informed masses. This false unity is not unity at all but masquerades as a very sophisticated illusion. This mirrors society today where at times, coercion replaces free will, as happens the world that today.

However what seemed like a catastrophe by the dividing of languages has become a blessing, therefore fulfilling Acts 17:26:

“And He hath made of one blood all nations of men to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation,” Acts 17:26 Weymouth New Testament

This articulated the divine plan of the human Diaspora. No matter the account that one subscribes to, all can agree that language played a major part in our cultural and therefore ethnic diversity.

People, who are open to displaying trust, seek engagement with the community, at large. They will forgo self-interest and act for the common good, doing things such as community service, giving to charity and embracing principles of honesty. Trust enables a culture of transparent communication. It speaks to a certain comfort level of interpersonal interaction. Real trust does not give place to rumors, but is Christ  inspired.
