What Lies Beneath the Surface II: Success

Surface111

“Arise, shine, for your light has broken through!  The Eternal One’s brilliance has dawned upon you.  See truly; look carefully—darkness blankets the earth; people all over are cloaked in darkness. But God will rise and shine on you; the Eternal’s bright glory will shine on you, a light for all to see. Nations north and south, peoples east and west, will be drawn to your light, will find purpose and direction by your light. In the radiance of your rising, you will enlighten the leaders of nations. Isaiah 60 (The Voice)

Our world is filled with human beings who struggle to find meaning, purpose and light through our shadow selves of darkness. The effects of  these shadows congeals us into factions of the familiar in a world of diversity. Often, we search for light in the success of  our created heroes. Whether political, sports, entertainment, social or religious figures. The one thing in common is their ability to transcend divisions between groups and factions. This enables them in consensus building, support and/or  popularity.

They are leaders that lead by their talents, attributes, charisma, social skills or passion. Their teams, followers, fans or effected masses determine the heights to which they ascend as heroes. The word that comes to mind when we think of these heroes, is Success.

Real success is defined by how people effect the people;  without people neither heroes nor success exist. Masters of Empathy, such as;  Mother Teresa, Martin Luther King Jr,  Harriet Beecher Stowe, George Orwell, Desmond Tutu and Mahatma Gandhi have shown us how to connect with those outside of our shadow selves to set themselves apart as true Heroes.

o-THIRD-METRIC-facebookSuccess is more of a fluid barometer of positive  influence on people and society, rather than the static bottom lines of wage earnings, name or a title. “Building the Bridge Together” over the ethnic cultural divide becomes a success mechanism as we lay it’s model over the backdrop of the new metric of success” described in a Huffington Post section and the self titled post Third Metric Redefines Success (INFOGRAPHIC)”. The post identifies what it refers to as the Old Definition of success, which include “Money and Power”. The Post then defers to the New Definition, which includes; Empathy, Wisdom, Giving Back, Family, Sleep, Passion, Friendship, Mindfulness and Health.

We all have the potential to access the light from within to become Heroes of Success in our efforts to build across the divide, by employing some elements of the Third Metric to build the bridge. Empathy i.e. “possessing the ability to understand and feel another’s feeling for yourself.” This is essential to bridging any divide. Also, seeking friendship displays the mutual respect that leads to Trust and Reciprocity in between individuals across ethnic boundaries.

Boundaries no longer need define us but they can simply present themselves as opportunities to energized our passion and at the same time, shadow driven divisiveness allows our lights to burn that much brighter together.

“In Him was Life, and the Life was the Light of men. And the Light shines on in the darkness, for the darkness has never overpowered it [put it out or absorbed it or appropriated it, and is unreceptive to it].”
John 1:4-5 Amplified Bible (AMP)
