Folk’s get brown in the sunshine

Everybody Loves the Sunshine by Roy Ayers album released 1976

With the approach of summer, the days get longer and brighter. In the northern hemisphere at summers arrival, we notice that  humankind begins to do all of the things they do. One inescapable fact is that “folks get brown in the sunshine“, and some more than others. While under the sun’s brightness, there are those who can do nothing more than burn. The whole sequence reveals the levels of melanin in our skin which can provide a window into the past by providing a Technicolor display of various levels of our common ancestry. Though limited as an external phenotype, skin color can yet tell a small part of that story.

The Sun offers so much life to this Technicolor world. Life and existence are all dependent upon its brightness and warmth. New growth is the signature of its presence, from the photo synthesis of earths plant life to the Vitamin D production for human health; the Sun provides natural  healing and empowerment.  It is not a wonder that the ancients worshiped it;  just as todays sun bathers bathe in it, with tanning beds and spray ons folks imitate its effects because everybody loves the sunshine.

However, it is a fact that some are more genetically equipped to tan into deeper shades of golden to bronze and beyond.  All of these color bearers do not  fall into the stereo typical categories that we would like to comfortably fit them to. These include those that we would consider Anglo or White persons.  In many cases, our real complexion is revealed when the sun is the brightest and our exposure is maximized.

We are truly an advanced ever evolving social and biological experiment of a deities’ superior intelligence  ( The Art of the Apothecary KJV). Our designed diversity is no fluke, so we need to navigate it correctly. The true light is God’s, which brings an awareness and thereby illuminates chasms that we allow to separate us.

bridgeThe Sun of Righteousness will rise with healing in his wings for you people who fear my name. You will go out and leap like calves let out of a stall.” Malachi 4:2 GOD’S WORD Translation (GW)

The  intangible  becomes tangible the more flawed humankind is exposed. If  Building the Bridge Together between ethnicities is to be achieved, leadership must be its driving force. Through the many organizations that represent the variety of ethnic social causes, there must be a refocusing away from goals specifically framed by racial identity to human citizenry because we are so much better together.

All of this is no poetic escape to some Utopian Neverland; we still have a long way to go to bring about the synergy that gets things done. The tools of agreement and spirituality are key mechanisms to bring about change. The leadership that is needed may not come from conventional means in our houses of worship and the many other social fabrics that connect  us and at sometimes divide us. Leaders come in many cultures, colors, shades and ethnicities; these leaders, many of which are yet to be discovered as stated in scripture:

” But God told Samuel, “Looks aren’t everything. Don’t be impressed with his looks and stature. I’ve already eliminated him. God judges persons differently than humans do. Men and women look at the face; God looks into the heart.” 1 Samuel 16:7 The Message (MSG)

Small groups, House Churches and Civic groups etc, will lead the way in a movement of relationship through peacemaking and reconciliation, replicating the synergistic pattern toward healing and empowerment. Therefore, everybody can enjoy the sunshine.
